The 25th Scarecrow and Mrs. King Anniversary

2/27/2011

I’m reposting for Narelle who wanted all the details about the SMK reunion I attended back in 2008.

The Event: The 25th Anniversary of Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

The Location: The Beverly Garland Hotel in Burbank, California.

When: October 3-4, 2008

Fans got the opportunity to visit with SMK cast members and I was one of the lucky few! It was also a chance to meet many of my online friends, who share my addiction to SMK.

Thursday

I flew from Seattle to Burbank Thursday afternoon where I was picked up at the airport by the lovely Jen V. She took me to the Beverly Garland Hotel where I checked in, sharing a room with Buffy and Neeney. We hung at the pool for a while and then several girls and I took the subway to Hollywood Boulevard, we walked along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, found Beverly Garland’s star, viewed Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the famous hand-prints, walked past the Kodak Theatre, saw the famous “Hollywood” sign from the distance, and did some shopping. Then we took the subway back to the hotel for dinner.

Spring Time

It’s that time of year again. The weather is getting warmer, the daffodils have begun to push up from the hard soil, and the dreaded science fair is right around the corner.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I loathe science fair projects. Talk science to me and my eyes glaze over like a Krispy Krème doughnut. I struggled in science in all grades and barely got away with the bare minimum to finish high school and college, so do you really think I care or want to know; if you shake up different kinds or brands of soft drinks will they all spew the same amount? Or how many beans can a student stick up his or her nose? (From what I understand, the answer is three). Or how to stop a nuclear bomb with chewing gum and a paper clip (MacGyver, I am not).

Yes, the dreaded science fair—thrusting parents into projects we know nothing about. Most parents aren’t any more science literate then their school age kids. (Raising my hand here). Googling ideas until your eyes cross. The pressure is awful. Then there is the whole guessing game of finding the perfect project (one that will not only interest the child, but also not require the parental role model to run to four different electrics stores looking for the correct type of copper wiring). Think about the dozen or so eggs which lost their lives all in the name of science. Or the time I had to pour out a full bottle of extra virgin olive oil because the glass bottle was the perfect size for someone’s experiment. The sacrifices we make for our children. Followed by all the time required working on the experiment or model, the results, the report, the visual aids, and then having to stop at three different box stores looking for the 3-fold display board (true story, because every store was sold out of them). As a parent, I feel I put as much work into the project as the kid.

Science fairs are just not fair.

Writing Assignment #1

Question: What food or meal carries an unfavorable association for you?

Answer: The food that carries an unfavorable association for me is spaghetti. Worms in red sauce is what I think when I now see a plate full of cold, greasy spaghetti in front of me.

I used to love spaghetti, twirling the noodles around my fork or slurping the long pasta strings into my mouth.

However, all that changed when I was 12 years-old and attended Outdoor School. A week long hands-on, science based, environmental, nature, wilderness appreciation class; like camp, but without the fun. The experience was cut short by food poisoning. . . by you guessed it. . . spaghetti. Trust me when I say, pasta noodles and spaghetti sauce do not taste good coming back up.

. . . so please do not ask me to attend any spaghetti feeds.

Well, I have competed the SMK/Chuck crossover story Chuck versus the Weekend.

As a side note, I find it ironic in the story I mention the Yosemite Theater. The theater produces a one-man show about naturalist John Muir and the actor who plays Muir is--Lee Stetson!! I can't make this stuff up.

Scarecrow and Mrs. King season will be released on March 22, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.

This and That Redux

Loving my muse has decided to come back and he seems to be sticking around at the moment.

I haven't written any fan fiction in over a year, except for a VSS SMK story about Lee's feeling about wedding rings, that I posted a couple of weeks ago (Lee versus the Rings). I just wrapped up a first draft of a Chuck/SMK crossover story and gave it to my beta reader this afternoon. This is my first Chuck story and first time I have written for a different series. The fic should be about 10,000 words when all is said and done. Have one scene I need to rework, but the rest I feel good about. Once my beta finishes, I'll send it on to my editor friend, she's always good at finding typos, missing punctuation and grammar errors. I hope to be posting soon, depends on the turnaround.

I'm still plugging away on a screenplay I have been working on about an FBI agent who works and lives in a small rural town in Idaho. I'm excited because I have been able to contact the Bureau itself and they have referred me to the public affairs specialist, and hopefully I can obtain some information which should help keep the story grounded and real. Yes, I am excited!!

Also linked a new music video Annette and I worked on together. It can be found under the heading music videos. It's Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" and dedicated to season one Lee Stetson.

In other news, my frozen shoulder still does not seem to want to move, although I do seem to be getting my range of motion back. Physical therapy, chiropractic care, and exercises seem to help, but not enough. Six months of this--and I  have had enough. The arm from my shoulder to elbow is experiencing pins and needles sensations and my left hand now goes numb. Makes it very difficult to type or get house work done. However, I am surviving. :-)

List of Beliefs

2/4/2011

While looking for something else this afternoon, I came across an old college journal and found this passage I thought I would share.

List of Beliefs

1. I believe that I'm here for a reason and that everything that happens--happens for a reason. We can't stop fate, although we might slow things down by altering our course.

2. I believe am a child of God and he loves me unconditionally.

3. I believe I am not perfect, but trying to be better.

4. I believe obstacles in life can be gone around, over, under or through. Our trials make us stronger and no matter what our burdens, someone else's in heavier than mine.

5. I believe I know what I want out of life and am striving towards those goals. (Side note: My goals in college were much different than my goals today).

6. I believe you should live life to the fullest and if you have a dream, determine what you need to do to reach that dream. It's also nice to break away from reality once in awhile and let your imagination go wild.

7. I believe we can learn from mistakes and we should never stop learning.

Quotation: Go through life as an exclamation point not a question mark.

     "Hey. . . it's me."

I live in the shadows of the Olympic Mountains in the state of Washington and I love camping, boating, kayaking, hiking, and hanging out with my husband, our three adult children, and our Bernese Mountain dog, Henry.

I am a paraeducator working with special needs children. In my spare time, I read, write, listen to music, direct community theater, work on family history, and visit forest fire lookouts and lighthouses.

"Actually, I do a lot of things."

My favorite television show growing up was Scarecrow and Mrs. King and my screenplays and fan fiction stories are all based on that series (with some Chuck crossovers thrown in).

"There is a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humor and hurt." ~ Erma Bombeck
