Drabbles concerning Lee’s thoughts about wedding rings.
There Goes the Neighborhood
Lee Stetson maneuvered his silver Porsche down the dark highway. The high performance radial tires scattered autumn leaves in its wake.
Holding up the wedding band Amanda adorned the past three days, moonlight gleamed off the gold surface. A smile tugged at his lips reflecting back to the first argument he had with his 'wife' in their cheery kitchen. Wouldn’t a normal couple kiss and make up? Imagine him kissing Amanda! He chuckled. She certainly was an enigma, yet Amanda had been instrumental in their escape from Bouchard’s office. Who knows, maybe someday she would make a decent agent. What?!
Ship of Spies
Lee escorted Amanda to the Georgetown elevator, flashing his pinky finger as the doors closed.
Tilting the ring, the 18-carat ring shimmered, catching the lights from the corridor. He reflected back on their wedding. In a million years, he never thought he would hear those words. He shook his head. Strange things happened on that assignment, but Amanda never ceased to amaze him. He couldn’t help but think back to the kiss they shared as husband and wife. He briefly touched his lips, remembering her soft lips on his. They were just maintaining their covers—nothing more to it, right?
Before Night Crawler
Lee stared at the ceiling and then glanced at his alarm clock. Only twenty minutes had passed since the last time he looked. Realizing he wasn’t going to get any sleep, he swung his long legs around the edge of the bed. He pulled on his robe and made his way to the dresser. Opening the top drawer, he pulled out a ring. He gripped the ring tightly for a moment—it had been his mother’s engagement ring. Holding it up, the diamond danced in the moonlight. Now all he needed was a plan—dinner, roses, a bottle of champagne. . .
Do You Take This Spy?
Taking her hands in his, Lee faced Amanda. She never looked more beautiful. He watched her mouth curve into a smile and heard a small sigh escape her lips. Her large brown eyes were full of trust and love, then heard her repeat their vows “. . . for all the days of our lives.”
After kissing his new bride, he glanced down, twisting the gold band adorning the third finger of his left hand. The ring flashed in the diffused sunlight from the judge’s chambers. He smiled at Amanda—his other half, his partner, his best friend, his wife, his life.
